Dr. Ali McManus Appointed as Director of the School of Health and Exercise Sciences

A message from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Development (FHSD)

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ali McManus as Director of the School of Health and Exercise Sciences for a five-year term, commencing July 1, 2025. Dr. McManus is a Professor in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences. She joined the School in 2013 after holding a faculty position at the University of Hong Kong for 18 years. She leads the Pediatric Exercise Research Laboratory and is particularly interested in developmental integrative physiology. She and her team use various laboratory experimental and interventional methods to explore how children and adolescents’ cardiopulmonary and vascular systems respond to various environmental challenges, such as exercise, sedentary behavior, and high altitude. The lab has a particular interest in wearable technology, enabling the capture of remote data collection and health biometrics. As the Director of the School of Health and Exercise Sciences, Professor McManus is committed to advancing the School’s priorities and supporting its world-class educational leaders, researchers, and trainees who are shaping the field of health and exercise sciences both in Canada and globally.
