“Students are benefiting a great deal from applying at least three years of their university education in a practical organizational setting. This type of learning really helps to deepen the meaning of the theoretical knowledge students have gained in the classroom.”
Rebecca Frechette, Placement Coordinator

Welcome to the School of Health and Exercise Sciences Practicum Program

Fourth-year students from the School of Health and Exercise Sciences are extending the walls of their classrooms into the community, where many connections are being made through experiential learning.

Our community partners have been very receptive in supporting our practicum students each year. Some organizations decide to employ our students once they have graduated, based on their experience with the students while on practicum. Students are exposed to real-world situations. They become immersed in the culture of the profession in which they’re placed, and also learn how to deal with workplace issues that arise in interactions with clients and coworkers. Students gain important skills to make a successful transition from the academic world to the workplace, while contributing their fresh perspectives to an existing organization.
